Questions

The questions we get asked.

Everything you need to know before a first conversation. Another question?Write to us.

Which sectors do you invest in?

Three fields: cybersecurity and digital trust, artificial intelligence applied to business processes, and industrial and retail operations. What they share is not the sector but the kind of software: the kind that has to convince an organisation, not an end user.

Do you still invest in cybersecurity?

Yes. It is our first field, and the only one we operate in directly, through Purcept and Mindlapse. Cybersecurity is simply no longer the limit of our scope: it is where we prove every week that our investment filter works.

What do you not fund?

Consumer and B2C, marketplaces, crypto, long-cycle hardware, biotech and video games. The rule fits on one line: if the buyer is the end user, we bring nothing beyond capital, and capital alone is not what we sell.

What kind of company are you looking for?

Technical teams addressing a business problem that is already budgeted, however badly, with a defensible advantage and a long-term vision. We favour technical founders at the very first round.

At what stage do you invest?

We invest at pre-seed, as a Business Angel. This is the stage where capital, network and counsel have the strongest leverage on a company's trajectory.

Do you always invest, or do you also advise without capital?

Both. We invest at pre-seed as a Business Angel, and also sit on Advisory Boards without taking equity when operational guidance makes more sense: strategy, sales, communication.

Where are you based?

Menlo Capital is a SAS based in Lille, in the Hauts-de-France region, founded in 2025. We invest and advise across France and Europe.

How are Menlo, Purcept and Mindlapse related?

Menlo Capital is the holding company of Purcept (purcept.fr), a cybersecurity consulting firm. Menlo is also one of the three co-founders of Mindlapse (mindlapse.ai), an AI-native cyber governance platform, in which it holds a stake. These two companies are our field: they put us in front of executives who buy, every week, and that is where our investment filter comes from.
